Funny Man is Gary Morecambe’s first book about Eric, or should that really be Dad.  It is a superb book that recalls many of Gary’s childhood memories about his father.

The book is split into 9 chapters: Son and Father, Husband, At Home, At Work, On Holiday, Illness, Friends, Hobbies and Questions and Answers.

Each chapter is treated like a small essay… “Please Mr Morecambe describe life at home in under 2000 words”.  There are many amusing and light hearted stories about Eric, such as his attempts to cook a meal or the families caravanning experiences.

The book is scattered with black and white photos from the family archives.

A nice touch at the end is the Question and Answer section.  This is where anything Gary had not written about he asks Eric.  Here Eric talks about such things a religion, music and comedy.

What this book is not is a detailed biography of Eric and Ernie.  For that you really should look at the Graham McCann book.  It is a book about Eric and is a great collection of stories and anecdotes.
